Many Data Centers, mostly those built before 2000, are at risk of outstripping their capacity to power and cool their IT systems. Already, Data Centers consume 10 to 30 times more energy per square foot than the typical office building—a figure that has doubled in the last five years. Energy costs represent the single largest component of operating expenses and a potential barrier to future expansion.
Feasibility and Audit Studies
Many private sector companies undertake Data Center transformations to drive down costs, improve IT agility, and align resources to business priorities. Global companies have successfully tackled Data Center consolidation and IT infrastructure rationalization. At Centrologix, we conduct world-class in-depth multidisciplinary assessments through industry proven methods and processes to provide a clear picture of the situation, present innovative yet efficient options and make appropriate recommendations so our clients make the right decisions. More than 50 dimensions are analyzed covering equipment, processes and people. Better planning makes good business sense.
Energy Savings and Grant Eligibility Studies
Several subsidies and financing strategies are available for private organizations that need to make important investment decision in IT optimization without negatively affecting their cash flow. Centrologix starts every audit and assessment with your financial capabilities in mind.
You can rely on financial as well as technical expertise in helping you with your Data Center optimization program.
Infrastructure Cost Reduction Program
Centrologix has developed product and pricing expertise that will help you determine the most cost effective equipment and services mix. Our Data Center equipment and pricing knowledge makes it very easy for you to make the right choice. It all starts by keeping the business issues in mind and diligently investigating your current infrastructure. Too often, project scope is based on desired equipment and incomplete inventory rather than real client and end-user needs. Centrologix closes the gap between electromechanical and IT equipment and aligns the infrastructure strategy with your business imperatives.
Maintenance Contract and Warranty Protection Assessment
Ongoing annual maintenance represents up to 15% of your initial design/build investment. Rarely challenged, cost overruns are often the result of lack of planning. Centrologix offers in-depth planning and consulting services to establish and negotiate the right program for you. Warranty programs differ from one OEM to another. Protection can also be diluted when purchasing from Buy/Resale distributors or sales agents. With the proliferation of third party organizations, warranty program protection is paramount. Aligning both these programs will save you headaches and money.
Infrastructure Budget and Project Planning
Cost overruns and timeline distortions are common project occurrences due to lack of proper planning. Centrologix can prepare budgets within 100% accuracy if required, including equipment, trades, professional services and peripheral costs. You can rely on our expert services when validating, challenging or presenting your budget and scope of work for approval.
Replace aging equipment at reduced cost
Western Canada
(Tier 1)
Replacing tier 1 critical electromechanical equipment at the end of its useful life, with multiple single points of failure requiring annual shut downs for preventive maintenance, is not desirable for any Data Center Operator. The risks involved in turning the power off/on are too great and can result in loss of income.

What started as an equipment replacement mandate based on a classic changeover design with an extended weekend shutdown turned into a design review and optimization. Centrologix did face a number of challenges and constraints:
  • Work on a fixed budget with several unanswered questions
  • Substantially reduce the required shutdown time
  • Optimize a previous design
  • Provide electromechanical redundancy as a value-added solution
The original design called for a new electromechanical room to be built to host two new UPS and two Cooling units. This approach involved transforming office space requiring extended architectural and construction work, floor reinforcement, long run of electrical feeds and refrigerant piping, etc. The existing electromechanical room, once depleted from its power equipment, would be 75% empty.

Centrologix dispatched a team consisting of electrical, mechanical and construction management experts to first assess the situation. After careful review and consideration in a very short period of time, Centrologix proposed to reuse the current electromechanical room by replacing the aging wet cells with a temporary string of VRLA batteries. This would allow for the safe removal of the obsolete wet cells and free sufficient space to install the two (2) new UPS systems, thus not requiring any new room construction. The same applied for the mechanical side.

In-depth investigation and itemized inventory of the consultant's initial assumptions resulted in important technical discoveries and budgetary reductions. Optimization is now complete and Centrologix is currently providing turnkey services for this site.

Reusing the current electrical room proved to be the right decision for meeting new budget restrictions. Project is in progress and within budget.
